welhaast hopeloos. Het lichte deinen van het
inktzwarte water stimuleert nochtans de eetlust
der geharde magen. Evenwijdig met de masten der
machtige schepen wijst het inoxidabel eetgerei tergend
naar het zwerk. Bijna wordt het gegeven onoverzichtelijk.
Toch gebeurt iets, onverwachts. Men wordt besteld.
Professioneel houdt de kelner het dienblad boven
het wateroppervlak. Vandaag zijn er kalfslapjes.

Maar die waarlijk vreemdsoortige honger dient
zich blijvend aan. Dan kromt men langzaam de
gespierde nek en met open mond, halfdichtgeknepen
ogen staart men, in een nu onveranderlijk
geworden houding, naar het
Bovenste, naar het Allemachtige.

On a floating ponton (a computer translation from Dutch into English)

One experiences in the city G. this strange incident.
One was found of at a solid, oak table.
In the left hand, one holds the fork, erect.
In the right hand, one holds the knife, erect.
If asks one at a less to eat.
Everything is usual, the triviality in optimal form.

The while self does grant is obviously for,
within the harbor district of these at midnight province city
G., that really one of the largest toB., small country.
A ponton drives dove in the middle of the S. -. Around
a cold wind blows. The moon appears full, only now
and then clouded through a small cloud. Otherwise
state the heaven free. The almost insurmountable night
ogles overwhelming. Of far continents bring take onboard
a weak suspect of the smell of the sea with
self with. Little howls, only sirens.

On a floating ponton, the waiting resembles food
almost desperately. The light heave of the
ink black water stimulates nonetheless the appetite
of the hardened stomaches. Parallel with the masts of
the powerful take on board wisest the inoxidabel eat convenience provoking
to the heaven. Almost the given becomes poorly organized.
Yet lifted something, unexpectedly. One is ordered.
Professional holds the waiter the tray above
the water surface. Today its there calfsalad.

But that truly peculiar hunger announces
self permanently. Then one bends slowly the
muscular neck and with open mouth, half closed
pinch eyes one stares, in a now invariable
become attitude, notwithstanding at the
Top, notwithstanding at the Extreme.
